Abstract

This study explores the themes of identity and transformation in contemporary song lyrics, focusing on a Southeast Asian context, as embodied in the song "Kau Bukan Dirimu". By considering song lyrics as a form of literary expression, we employ both lyrical and musical analysis to investigate how the song communicates the poetics of identity and change. We reveal the nuanced depiction of identity, transformation, and loss in a romantic relationship through the song lyrics. Additionally, this study draws connections between the themes expressed in the song and broader social, cultural, and psychological aspects of Southeast Asian society.
