ABSTRACT
In contemporary Indonesian music, there emerges a palpable and recurrent theme of unresolved emotions, hinting at a collective yearning that resonates deeply with the modern Indonesian psyche. Analyzing emblematic songs like "Mengapa Tiada Maaf," this paper delves into the intricate tapestry of societal changes, personal longings, and cultural retentions that contribute to this emotive narrative. This song, as a poignant representative, captures sentiments of longing, forgiveness, and introspection, echoing the broader societal challenges faced by a nation navigating the tumultuous waters of modernity while being anchored to tradition. Through a rich interplay of musicological, sociological, and cultural perspectives, we explore how contemporary Indonesian music acts as both a mirror reflecting urban consciousness and a bridge connecting disparate epochs of Indonesian identity.
